Downtown on a Sunday.

The first fundraiser for the Dattola Theatre was held this past Sunday afternoon.

All kinds of people packed into the big parking lot on Barnes St. for the festivities.

There was a classic car show.
There were food and snack booths.
There was live music.
There was a strong sense of community spirit.
Just what this town needed.

Now, from what we've heard, it was rather successful.
We hope that is actually the case.

Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Some were even taking the short walk to check out the theater site.

Now that things are underway.
We would like to make a future movie suggestion.
(We are thinking positive here.)

It seems that back in the 70's or so.
(the porn era)

The Dattola took a break from the hardcore stuff, for something a little more festive...

"Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"
Martians, upset that their children have become obsessed with TV shows from Earth which extoll the virtues of Santa Claus, start an expedition to Earth to kidnap the one and only Santa. While on Earth, they kidnap two lively children that lead the group of Martians to the North Pole and Santa. The Martians then take Santa and the two children back to Mars with them. Voldar, a particularly grumpy Martian, attempts to do away with the children and Santa before they get to Mars, but their leader Lomas stops him. When they arrive on Mars, Santa, with the help of the two Earth children and a rather simple-minded Martian lackey, overcomes the Martians by bringing fun, happiness and Christmas cheer to the children of Mars.

Tell me that doesn't sound like a sweet flick.

Now, although being rather big movie buffs, none of us here at thenewk had heard
of this film.

But now that we know it exists, we must see it.

And not on our little 43" HDTV that centers our home theater.

We want the big screen, with the popcorn smell and the sticky soda covered floors.

I also want some Snowcaps, damn it.

So this is our official first petition.

If we get enough people to commit to a viewing, we may make this happen.

Are you in?

Oh yeah.
Thanks for the tip, Billie!
